Have you seen advertisements which read something like - I made $7K posting links on Google???? While it is true that many of us make our living by trying to bring in visiitors from Google and the other major search engine, these ads should make you wary.

Geotargetting for good or evil -  if you see a nice story about some guy (or gal) in your hometown who managed to live the rich internet lifestyle, you should know that scripts can pick up the city  you are browsing the internet in, and those scripts can insert that town name into the web page you are reading. Lots of ads work like this.

Even Google works like this. It isn't always bad. For example, if I am searching for an Italian restaurant, I probably want one in the Houston area (because that is where I live) even if I did not say so. However, sometimes thiese geotargetting scripts can be used for deceptive reasons.

Google Adsense is a program that allows you to run advertising on your website, and getting paid for doing it in a variety of ways. Some ads may pay per click, and some may pay for impression. On the other hand, Google Adwords is the program you can use to buy advertising for your website. There, I told you the deal, and now you must send me money. <JK>

While many people make money by selling advertising (Adsense) or buying advertising (Adwords), they usually don't say it is easy. They treat it like a job or a business. Be wary of any ads that tell you that you can become an overnight success by posting links!

What is true, is that in order to make money from internet advertising, is that you will probably need to have a website, generate traffic to that website, and then profit from that traffic. Since there are billions of websites, and probably tens of thousands in your particular niche, you have to become good at what you do.

Is it impossible? No, as I said this is a big part of my business, and the business of thousands of other people. Is it easy? Well, I don't think so. I am constantly working to produce good content that people will want to visit, and also to promote my websites so people can find them. I love doing it, and you may love it too.

Is there a way to learn to do this? Yes, you can learn to do it. I learned from diving in and also by frequenting webmaster forums and reading. You can try searching on a major search engine (like Google!) for free articles and forum posts like this one. Start learning, and you can start earning!
